About The Grasshoppers
The Cen-Tex Grasshoppers are a group of senior golfers that was chartered in 1979. Our purpose is to enjoy the game of golf while creating new friends. Fun and fellowship are major aspects of our group.
We organize and conduct six two-day tournaments each year in the general geographic areas between the piney woods of East Texas and the hill country of Central Texas. The evening before each tournament we meet for a “Tailgate Party” where we are informed which members will participate on what teams and the format of the golf tournament.
The USGA rules are generally followed with a few modifications. Members come to us with a range of handicaps, including some very low to very high. All are welcome whatever your handicap, remembering that fun and fellowship are the keys to our success.
Generally, our membership consists of senior citizens fifty-five and older with a few of our members being slightly younger and some in their nineties. However, we are all young at heart and ready to play golf while enjoying one another’s company.

TOURNAMENT ENTRY DEADLINE: October 28, 2025
ENTRY FEE: Two (2) days of golf, cart, range balls, prizes, taxes, and lunch on Tuesday.
The General Meeting will be held during the luncheon on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
$131.00 per person $262.00 per couple
Lunch for non-golfer: $23
STARTING TIME: ***SHOTGUN START AT 8:30 AM*** Be at the course with clubs on carts by 8:00 AM. Announcements and game instructions will begin at 8:15 AM SHARP. (Make sure your name is on your golf bag.)
PRACTICE ROUND: Call (830) 997-4010. Identify yourself as a Cen-Tex Grasshopper forany rate discount.
TEE BOX: Men’s Tee: Green Women’s Tee: Red
GAME FORMAT:
Since this is our last event of the year, the golf format is two-person teams, made up of couples. Each team will be made up of one male and one female, if possible. Couples will be paired together. Singles – please indicate your partner preference when you sign up in Golf
League. If you do not have a partner, WE will pair you with someone. SINGLES-PLEASE DO NOT GO OUTSIDE OF OUR CURRENT GRASSHOPPER MEMBERSHIP TO FIND A PARTNER. The tournament will be “flighted” based upon the combined handicap of the twosomes. Prizes will be awarded in each flight each day.
FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT COUPLES, WE WILL PAIR UP ACCORDING TO REQUESTS OR AVAILABILITY.
Day 1: Game will be 1 LOW NET PLUS LOW PUTTS.
Day 2: Game will be ALTERNATE SHOT on Holes 1-9 and SCRAMBLE on Holes 10-18 with each player using at least two drives.
GENERAL MEETING LUNCHEON:
Menu: Chicken Tetrazzini, Garden Salad (Chopped Romaine, Grape Tomatoes, and
Shredded Carrots with choice of Ranch or Italian Dressing), Brioche Rolls and Butter, Lemon Bars, Iced Tea and Water. Drink tickets may be purchased for $5 and are suitable for: Domestic or Import Beer, House Wine, or a Small Red-Bird Margarita.
HOTEL: There are several hotels in the Fredericksburg area to get special rate but is cutoff is October 31st for most of them. (Holiday Inn Express ($124, (830) 997-3377), Best Western Plus ($95-$100, (830) 992-2929), Fredericksburg Inn & Suites ($129, (830)997-0202),
EconoLodge (59-$69, (830) 997-3437), Hampton Inn ($134, (830) 997-9696), LaQuinta, Fairfield by Marriott, Days Inn, Comfort Inn and Suites, Super 8).
TAILGATE PARTY: 5:00 – 6:00 PM, November 10th (Monday) at COURSE. Prepackaged light snacks only will be provided. Check-in at the Welcome Table to obtain your name tag and tournament pairings sheet.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Please sign into Golf League and let us know if you will be attending prior to October 28, 2025. In the comments section, please let us know if you are sending a check or will Zelle the money.
Word of mouth is not sufficient as an entry – be sure to let us know on Golf League site if you will or will not be attending. All members can change their response up to the Tournament Cancellation date shown below without loss of the prize money. If you are NOT participating in the tournament, your response must be in Golf League. Deadline for the Tournament Participation Cancellation is November 4, 2025
